On using degrees of belief in BDI agents

چکیده
The past few years have seen a rise in the popularity of the use of mentalistic attitudes such as beliefs desires and intentions to de scribe intelligent agents Many of the models which formalise such attitudes do not admit degrees of belief desire and intention We see this as an understandable simpli cation but as a simpli cation which means that the re sulting systems cannot take account of much of the useful information which helps to guide human reasoning about the world This pa per starts to develop a more sophisticated system based upon an existing formal model of beliefs desires and intentions

Agent-Based Stock Trader
In this paper, we introduce a unique implementation scheme of the Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) model to be used in an agentbased application using Java. The example prototype system is the Agent-based Stock Trader (AST) that is a stock-trading expert based on intelligent agents. Agents in AST are based on the Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) model in artificial intelligence. This paper proposes h...

The past few years have seen a rise in the popularity of the use of mentalistic attitudes such as beliefs, desires and intentions to describe intelligent agents. Many of the models which formalise such attitudes do not admit degrees of belief, desire and intention. We see this as an understandable simplification, but as a simplification which means that the resulting systems cannot take account...
متن کاملHospital Site Selection Using a Bdi Agent Model
This paper presents a newly developed Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) Agent-based model for estimating suitable hospital sites. Our model makes use of existing geospatial functions and a novel BDI architecture of agent techniques. More specifically, the fundamental concepts of practical reasoning architecture such as belief, desire, intention, along with commitment, and interaction have been comb...
متن کاملAugmenting BDI Agents with Deliberative Planning Techniques
Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) agents are well suited for autonomous applications in dynamic environments. Their precompiled plan schemata contain the procedural knowledge of an agent and contribute to the performance. The agents generally are constrained to a fixed set of action patterns. Their choice depends on current goals, not on the future of the environment. Planning techniques can provid...
متن کاملHeterogeneous BDI Agents I: Bold Agents
One of the most interesting issues that arises in agents based on the BDI (belief-desire-intention) formalism is capturing notions of realism, that is constraints that describe possible interrelationships between the three attitudes. Three such sets of constraints have been considered in the literature: strong realism, realism and weak realism. In this paper we propose notions of realism for he...
